As you all know, I am very passionate about Burma, and have just returned from my fourth trip there, last month. What a difference one month can make.
Many of you wish to give donations to help those in need of aid. However, it is clear that international organisations, including the UN, are having difficulties, due to the belligerence of the dreadful military government. This link may be of some use for those wishing to bypass the regime.

By going through this site, you donate money directly to the monks in Burma.
Giving to the monks is a smart, fast way to get aid directly to Burma's people. Governments and international aid organizations are important, but face challenges--they may not be allowed into Burma, or they may be forced to provide aid according to the military government's rules. And most will have to spend large amounts of money just setting up operations in the country. The monks are already on the front lines of the aid effort--housing, feeding, and supporting the victims of the cyclone since the day it struck. The International Burmese Monks Organization will send money directly to each monastery through their own networks, bypassing regime controls.

Here is a little about what Jean has to say about this charity which she has helped to set up:
Serbia is war torn, poor and has a dreadful attitude to animals. Dogs are despised and feared and treated as vermin! But dear brave Jelena has dedicated her life to saving them, and my small charity is really making a difference. I am in communication with Jelena who runs the shelter every day, she speaks perfect English so we have no problems understanding each other! I know what is happening at the shelter on a daily basis, the dogs that have been dumped, the ones that have been poisoned and the kittens that are left in boxes. It inspires and motivates me to do as much as I can to raise funds and awareness. Since I became involved almost 2 years ago we have made a real difference with nearly 100 dogs neutered, enclosures and insulated doghouses built (the dogs are all outside and the weather is very cold in winter in Serbia). Also money is sent for food which is always desperately needed and of course there are the veterinary costs.

BARRY HORNE
This site is dedicated to the memory of Barry Horne, an animal liberation activist who died in a UK prison hospital on November 5 2001. He had been sentenced to 18 years in prison for various criminal damage and arson attacks mainly against companies involved in vivisection.
In prison he went on hunger strike several times in protest against government support for the vivisection industry, and their broken pre-election promises about animal experiments. The third of these hunger strikes lasted 68 days, and Barry never fully recovered.
His actions generated worldwide publicity, and initiated a huge upsurge in animal liberation activity, the effects of which are still being felt even today.
This site will include details of Barry's life and achievements as an animal liberation activist as well as his imprisonment and subsequent hunger strike protests. If you have any contributions to make, please contact us at info@barryhorne.org
